Gyaku Age Uchi (Reverse Upward Strike)
- Maintain Jun-Nigiri hold and pull the upper or right section of the Bo back over your left shoulder (assumes you’re in right Zenkutsu Dachi).
- At the same time, swiftly shoot the lower section forward with your left hand and up into your opponent’s chin or groin.

Osae-Uke [K] (Bar or Pinning Maneuver)
- Assume Soto Hachiji Dachi. Using Jun-Nigiri, angle the Bo across your body, right hand uppermost.
- Step forward with your left foot.
- Pivoting clockwise into a left Gyaku Zenkutsu Dachi. As you pivot, bring the left section of the weapon down and around in a clockwise sweep over your left foot.
- Firmly push the left end of the staff into the target to deliver the pinning action.

Tsuki-Otoshi [K] (Gedan-Tsuki) (Low Thrust)
- Hold the Bo easily but securely with both hands, spreading them palms toward the floor, about two and one-half shoulder-widths apart. Assume right Gyaku Zenkutsu Dachi.
- Angle the Bo over your right leg, its left end held high, its right end aimed at your opponent’s foot.
- Push down firmly with your left hand. Use the right to guide the staff and fire the Bo into the target. Do not twist your wrist.

Tate-Uke [K] (Vertical Block)
- Assume Soto Hachiji Dachi and hold the Bo across your body (at a slight angle, in a natural position) with Jun-Nigiri, right hand uppermost.
- Move the Bo counterclockwise into a vertical position directly before you, your right hand on top and even with your forehead.
- Using both hands to reverse the movement, rotate the Bo clockwise 180 degrees.
- Block with the center section as the Bo enters a vertical position with your left hand on top.

Stepping directly sideways to the right into right Gyaku Zenkutsu Dachi, Osae-Uke (pinning manuever), Tsuki-Otoshi (low thrust). Pivot 180 degrees to the left into Left Zenkutsu Dachi, Age-Uchi (upward strike) (to opponents groin). |
