| Examine Bunkai behind Shushi No Kon Sho. Like empty handed Kata, Bo Kata consist of a series of individual composites. Each composite represents one or more defensive/ offensive manuevers. Bo kata demonstrate techniques which are effective against armed and unarmed oppenents. Armed opponents could be using any of a variety of weapons; Sword, Jo, Bo, Sai, Tonfa, Kama, etc… |
Morote-Uke, Upwards (Double-Handed Block) Use the upward Morote-Uke to counter Uchi-Otoshi attacks.
- As your opponents Bo comes down, grasp your Bo with Gyaku-Nigiri. Assume right Zenkutsu Dachi.
- Forcefully thrust your Bo upward, catching the on-coming weapon the center of your own.

Morote-Uchi (Double Handed Thrust)
- Graps the Bo with Gyaku Nigiri.
- Using both hands hold the Bo in a horizontal position,
- Thrust the Bo forward and up into your opponents chin or throat,
- or Slam it down into the back of his neck or head.
- Hit the target with the center section of your Bo.

Gyaku Harai-Uke (Reverse Downward Block) (Sweeping Block) Can be done as a line drill from both sides
- From Hajimae, step in right Zenkutsu Dachi.
- Bo is angled across your body, left hand uppermost.
- Switch from Jun Nigiri to Jun Nigiri, now left palm is facing you.
- Push right hand to left armpit, palm up. At the same time the upper tip of the bo moves clockwaise until left arm is in Gedan Bari position.
